Eyes firmly fixed on the Moon and beyond, whilst Musk never fails to surprise us.

After the impressive announcements from last week, we perhaps thought this week might be one of predictability, and continuing preparations for the new age of lunar and outer space exploration. This was true, to an extent, but who other than Elon Musk could ensure that the week didn’t go without a twist in the plot?

“Teams line up for NASA’s lunar rover”

As NASA begins its search for their new lunar rover for the Artemis missions, companies such as Lockheed Martin, GM and Nissan are forming their development teams in order to compete for the prestigious contract. As mentioned last week, we have to wonder how long it will be before more automotive companies look to bring their expertise to the field.

Not surprisingly, the ESA has ended its cooperation with Russia on future lunar cooperative projects, and Europe will now look towards NASA for new partnerships. Putin, whilst marking the 61st anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s maiden spaceflight, was defiant, claiming that Russia remains confident on its lunar ambitions this year.  Of course we can’t be sure how much of this can be believed, as the ongoing war in Ukraine takes its toll, and economic sanctions continue pile on the pressure.

“India’s new role for peace?”

Whilst Russia continues to be distanced from Europe and the west, India’s role is increasingly being brought into question. Could India now build a position of neutrality, not tied to either side of the conflict, and promote peaceful uses of outer space?

In the meantime, NASA has again had to delay its countdown preparation for Artemis-1, citing one problem being a hydrogen leak. In more positive news for the agency, they unveiled their spacecraft for the upcoming Psyche-16 mission, a 3 year long mission to explore the asteroid for mining potential.

“Elon, Dogecoin and Twitter”

After buying up 9.2% of Twitter last week, Elon Musk is now looking to buy the social media giant outright. There are many theories circling round the internet reasoning why, including some of his proposed plans, including changing the algorithm, adding and edit button and to remove ads. He has also proposed allowing the use of his favourite cryptocurrency, Dogecoin, as a means of payment for premium features. In the same week, there have been plans laid out for Dogecoin to be backed by Starlink (project “RadioDoge”), making it non-reliant on the internet. Is this all part of the masterplan? How could this relate to his Doge-1 moon mission? We look forwards to more on this coming soon.
